Dear Lexi,
Have I told you lately how incredibly special you are? You have so many people praying for you right now. We are such a lucky family. I was getting ready to write a letter about your MRI results when the hospital called to schedule your surgery!
We got an email this morning from Dr.Reaves, your oncologist, about what to plan to happen for surgery. The doctor who they want to remove the tumor on your foot in on vacation and that surgery is going to be more complex than originally thought. Dr. Reaves thinks we should wait on that until the anesthesia is not so dangerous for you and just worry about getting the tumor on your ovary out as soon as possible.
The MRI results came back with some information that is a little good, a little bad. The tumor that is on your left ovary is 4.6 cm. That sounds small but that makes it bigger than your ovary! The lymph nodes around the ovary are enlarged. The doctors decided that the best plan of action is to remove your entire left ovary and the enlarged lymph nodes. The good news is that it looks like your right ovary is still looking like it can keep its residence inside of you. Daddy and I are so afraid that they will find something else and have to take both that we are looking into ovary preservation just in case.
We get to go to Denver on Wednesday, December 4th to meet Dr Bruny, the pediatric surgeon who will be performing your surgery. She better be ready to answer approximately a million questions because I want to make sure that I trust the person that will be caring for you. Dr. Bruny is one of the heads of the pediatric surgery department at Children’s and comes with great recommendation.
Surgery is tentatively scheduled at 8:30am on Friday, December 6th. The nurse will call us on Thursday with a more definite time. I am not sure why the time can change, but the surgery will be on Friday either way. I am not sure of the plan any more than that, except for the fact that I will be by your side every second that they allow me to.
You have been so much more brave about this whole thing than I have been. I am so thankful that you have so many prayer warriors out there. I am also incredibly thankful that your daddy being in the Army provides us with full coverage insurance, giving us so much stability right now. You are so strong baby girl and I am blessed beyond measure that God gave me you. We love you infinity plus infinity.
XOXO,
